Probation Granted for Doylestown Theft Case
At Logue Law Group, we have experience handling varied types of cases. However, once in a blue moon, we receive cases that stun our experienced Pittsburgh criminal lawyers to the core. And in this blog, we are going to discuss one such case, which led to a tough battle, but ultimately ended up in our and our client’s favor.
Let’s take a closer look.
One Man, 16 Charges!
As mentioned above, this case was kind of special for us! That’s because our client faced 16 charges, and the list included the following-
- Burglary
- Theft
- Criminal trespassing
- Intentionally receiving stolen property
It so happened that our client, at the wee hours, broke into a coffee shop in Doylestown and stole some nitrous oxide refill canisters. But what he didn’t notice was that the entire shop was fitted with CCTV cameras, where everything got recorded.
In fact, the man didn’t bother enough to cover his face, which revealed his identity clearly to the police. So, it didn’t take much elbow grease for the cops to find him and levy the charges upon him.
The Road to Probation
When our Pittsburgh criminal lawyers heard the brief from our client, they immediately got to work. But we knew that dismissal or expungement was next to impossible, given the nature of the charges and the crime committed by our client.
Therefore, we had to come up with a slightly different approach to handle this sensitive case. Instead of an appeal for dismissal, our Pittsburgh criminal lawyers chose to negotiate with the prosecution to reduce the charges.
The negotiation was tough as all the evidence clearly justified the charges that our client was facing. But, at Logue Law Group, we don’t give up so easily! So, we argued about our client’s financial status and stated the prosecution about his job loss during the recession. We also placed an argument that our client committed the whole thing just to pay off his house rent, which had been due for three months.
And guess what- our defense strategy worked! The prosecution was kind enough to reduce the string of charges except for two-
- Criminal trespassing.
- Theft.
So, all our client had to do was plead guilty to these two charges. Now, thankfully, the N2O canisters that our client stole accounted for about $60. Therefore, both offenses were categorized as misdemeanors, and the low value became one of the most crucial factors for our Pittsburgh criminal lawyers to appeal for probation for our client.
Wait, there’s more! We didn’t just help our client avoid jail time. Our arguments regarding his financial status and his unemployment led the prosecution to waive off the restitution that convicts held with such charges are generally liable to pay.
Therefore, along with saving our client from going to prison, we also saved him from going further into debt! And that’s exactly why our Pittsburgh criminal lawyers are highly sought-after professionals in the Pennsylvania region.
We often involve ourselves in practices that we couldn’t even have thought about doing, just because of our situation. And at Logue Law Group, we understand this completely. So, even if you’ve been involved in some wrongdoing to make your situation better, don’t shy away from hiring a legal counsel.
