Speeding Charges Reduced to Zero-Point Non-Moving Violation
At Logue Law Group, cases of speeding and reckless driving have become much like our daily bread and butter! That’s because every day, or every other day, we receive calls from people asking for help to either reduce their speeding charges or have them dismissed entirely.
For instance, last week, we got a call from Mr. Green, who was charged with a speeding ticket for going over 39 mph beyond the speed limit on the I-95 highway. However, the man wasn’t ready to bear any points on his license. So he requested our Pittsburgh criminal lawyers to help him out.
Pointers for Speeding Violations in Pennsylvania
If you thought that every speeding violation adds 2 points to your license, you were wrong! The points depend on how far above the speed limit you were going.
Here’s a list that will help you understand the point system clearly-
- For driving 6- 10 mph over the speed limit: 2 points
- For driving 11- 15 mph over the speed limit: 3 points
- For driving 16- 25 mph over the speed limit: 4 points
- For driving 26- 30 mph over the speed limit: 5 points
- For driving 31+ mph over the speed limit: 5 points + hearing + license suspension
Now, the standard fine for speeding is $35. And for each mph you go over the speed limit, you’ve to pay an additional $2.
So, in the case of Mr. Green, who was charged for going 39 mph over the speed limit, his fines would have been-
$35 + ($2 x 39) = $113
However, that’s just for the speeding charge! Along with the additional surcharges and court costs, Mr. Green had to pay somewhere around $200- $250.
How Did We Tackle the Case?
Our Pittsburgh criminal lawyers are well-known for their negotiating power! So, when they heard the case, they immediately knew what needed to be done to keep the client’s request.
Mr. Green was the only earning member of a family of four. Added to that, he also had to bear the costs of his mother’s weekly dialysis plans. Therefore, an increased insurance premium would’ve been too much for him to handle. Added to that, a license suspension would disrupt his commute as his workplace was quite far away from his home.
Also, since Mr. Green was charged with driving at a significant speed, our Pittsburgh criminal lawyers couldn’t have attempted to move for a dismissal. So, they chose the second-best thing- reduction of the charges!
And as planned, our expert lawyers represented on behalf of Mr. Green in court and negotiated with the prosecution to reduce the charges. And after a brief argument session with our Pittsburgh criminal lawyers, the prosecution, upon checking the investigation and the evidence, decided to reduce the speeding ticket to a zero-point non-moving violation.
This means there would be no more charges lingering on the shoulders of our client, and he also won’t receive any points on his license. All he had to do was pay a $175 fine, and that’s all! Our lawyers handled everything else seamlessly, and Mr. Green didn’t have to appear in court by disrupting his work.
And that’s how we saved Mr. Green from a hefty fine, and also from increased vehicle premiums! Most importantly, our Pittsburgh criminal lawyers saved Mr. Green’s license from getting suspended, for which he was grateful to us.
