Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown Abuse Records and Survivor Resources
This page collects official disclosure, court, reporting, and support resources related to the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown. It is a source guide, not a finding about any individual or institution. An allegation, a diocesan listing, a criminal charge, a court finding, and a conviction are different kinds of records. Check the underlying source and its current status.
For statewide legal information, see our Pennsylvania child sexual abuse survivor-rights and filing-deadlines guide.
Diocese territory
The Diocese identifies its Pennsylvania territory as eight counties: Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Centre, Clinton, Fulton, Huntingdon, and Somerset. See the Diocese’s official diocesan history and county map for its own description of the region.
Official disclosure and historical materials
- Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown: Accused Clergy. The Diocese describes one list as diocesan priests who were the subject of credible allegations of sexual abuse of minors and their current status, and a separate list as priests placed on leave from public ministry after an allegation while a final decision is pending. These are the Diocese’s descriptions and status categories; a listing by itself is not a criminal conviction.
- Pennsylvania Superior Court opinion in Rice v. Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown. This 2019 appellate opinion references the 37th Investigating Grand Jury report issued March 1, 2016. It is a judicial opinion discussing that report, not the report itself, and its description of the civil case is specific to that case.
- Diocesan response and financial-summary materials. This is the Diocese’s own explanatory material about its response to survivors and related costs; read it as an institutional statement.
Finding court records
The Pennsylvania Unified Judicial System Case Search provides public docket information for many cases. Availability varies: the portal notes that some case information may not appear, and an entry should be read in context with the filed documents and later docket activity.
Reporting and support
If a child may be in immediate danger, contact emergency services. Pennsylvania ChildLine accepts reports of suspected child abuse 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-800-932-0313. The state says anyone may call to report suspected abuse or child-wellbeing concerns.
The Diocese lists an independent reporting hotline hosted by Nulton Diagnostic and Treatment Center at 833-685-8661. Its Victim Assistance Coordinator page describes survivor support and lists contact details. These diocesan channels do not replace reporting to civil authorities.
For local service agencies, see the Diocese’s victim-services directory for its eight-county region. For local legal information, see our Altoona and Johnstown survivor-rights guide.
Using this guide
Public records can be incomplete, updated, or limited by law. A docket search is not a complete background check, and this page does not determine whether a claim is timely or predict its outcome. Deadlines and available options depend on the facts and law applicable to a particular matter and should be reviewed with a Pennsylvania attorney.
