Allegheny County Criminal Appeals Lawyer
A criminal conviction or sentence can have serious effects on your freedom, work, and family. If a case was decided in Allegheny County, an appeal may allow a higher court to review certain claimed legal errors. Logue Law Group is based in Pittsburgh and represents people in Allegheny County. The firm does not claim a separate office in the county.
How a Pennsylvania criminal appeal works
Many appeals from final criminal orders entered by the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas are heard by the Pennsylvania Superior Court. An appeal is not a new trial: the appellate court reviews the record and the issues properly raised under the applicable standard of review. Depending on the case, issues may concern a trial ruling, sufficiency or weight of evidence, jury instructions, sentencing, or the effectiveness of prior counsel. Not every issue can be raised in every appeal.
Act promptly to protect appellate rights
Appellate deadlines are strict and depend on the order and procedural posture. A notice of appeal, post-sentence motion, or other filing may be required, and different rules apply to direct appeals and collateral proceedings. Preserve all court papers, note the date of the order, and have counsel review the docket quickly. Do not assume that filing one motion automatically extends every deadline.
Official resources include the Pennsylvania Superior Court, the Pennsylvania judicial district directory, and the Unified Judicial System docket search.
