Ohio Social Media Addiction and Teen Mental Health Claims

Families in Ohio may seek answers when a young person’s social media use coincides with serious mental health concerns. Heavy use, a diagnosis, or symptoms alone do not establish that a platform caused an injury or that a legal claim exists. Logue Law Group reviews potential social media injury inquiries in Ohio.

Public health information and its limits

The U.S. Surgeon General has published advisories addressing social media and youth mental health, and more recently the harms of excessive screen use. These materials describe population-level concerns and recommendations; they do not diagnose an individual or determine legal causation. Families should discuss health concerns with a qualified clinician.

Read the Surgeon General’s social media and youth mental health advisory and the 2026 HHS advisory on harmful screen use.

What social media lawsuits allege

Some lawsuits allege that platform design and engagement features encouraged compulsive use and contributed to injury among adolescents. Federal court materials describe a multidistrict proceeding involving such allegations. Allegations are disputed; the existence of litigation does not establish liability or mean a particular young person qualifies for a claim. See an official Judicial Panel order describing the MDL allegations.

What an individual review may consider

A review may consider the young person’s age and account history, platforms and features used, timeline of use, health history, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and other possible causes. Applicable legal standards and deadlines vary by state and by the facts. A diagnosis or screen-time total alone does not establish a claim.

Preserve information carefully

Keep existing account records, device-use summaries, relevant communications, safety reports, and treatment records. Do not alter or destroy potentially relevant material, access another person’s account without authorization, or share passwords. Medical and account information about a minor is sensitive; do not send it through a public contact form. Ask counsel about secure ways to share records.

Care and safety come first

A legal inquiry should not delay mental health care or change a treatment plan. Contact a qualified clinician about health concerns. If someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services.

Discuss a potential Ohio claim

Logue Law Group can review inquiries involving a young person in Ohio. An attorney can discuss the evidence, possible claims, jurisdiction, and deadlines after learning the facts. No eligibility or outcome is guaranteed. A consultation does not create an attorney-client relationship unless the firm agrees to representation through a signed engagement agreement.

This page offers general information, not medical advice or a guarantee of representation or recovery. The firm does not imply a physical office in every community it serves.
