Professional Drivers

Getting tickets for violating traffic rules is not at all rare. But if driving is your profession, then the case is absolutely different. The impact of the driving mistakes committed by professional drivers is way more serious than usual.

You should always fight for a clean driving record rather than accepting your mistakes. So, do not delay in hiring an experienced Pittsburgh criminal defense attorney if you get alleged of committing a traffic violation.

Only a reputed and experienced defense attorney who has previously fought cases in favor of those holding a CDL (commercial driving license), can help you out of these situations. At Logue Law Group, we have several such attorneys who have experience in fighting CDL cases.

You can get your charges reduced or even dismissed with professional help. Never think twice before retaining a good criminal lawyer in Pittsburgh as the investment is totally worth it. You can actually save a lot on your future insurance costs, fines, etc.

Rules for Commercial/Professional Drivers

If you violate the traffic rules, then points would be added to your driving record. You might also end up paying fines and hefty insurance premiums. Also, your license can get suspended if there are a few points on your records. This will definitely have a negative impact since this is your profession.

Notification

If you hold a CDL, then your employer should get notified of your offense within 30 days. It is also required that you inform PennDOT within 30 days about receiving the violation while driving out of state.

Penalties

If this is your first offense, then PennDOT will suspend your Commercial Driving License for at least a year for any of the following reasons:

  • You are driving a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) despite a suspended, revoked, recalled or canceled CDL.
  • Committing a felony with a CMV
  • Leaving the accident scene and failing to report about it
  • Causing damage to an unoccupied vehicle or property with a CMV
  • Getting into an accident that leads to injury or death with a CMV
  • Driving a CMV after consumption of alcohol or other kinds of controlled substances
  • Driving a CMV with a blood alcohol level of .04 (half the legal limit in Pennsylvania) or more that that
  • Refusing to take a blood alcohol test, etc.

If this is the second time, then your professional driver’s license can get suspended for life.

If you commit any of the above offenses while transporting hazardous materials, for your first offense then you can lose your CDL for three years. So, you can understand how complicated it can get if you are a driver by profession. Do not delay in contacting a reputed traffic ticket lawyer in the Pittsburgh area whenever you receive a ticket from the police.

You can lose your license for at least 60 days if two serious violations are committed in three years. And if the number is three, then you can lose your license for 120 days.

Out of State

If your license gets suspended as a professional driver in another state, then also your company, as well as others, can access the information using a common database known as the National Driving Register. If another state has suspended your license, then Pennsylvania would do the same. Your driving record would be affected even if the offenses are minor.
