Speeding Points

Traffic Attorney Assisting Pittsburgh Drivers

Have you been issued a ticket for speeding? It may seem like a nuisance and something that you would like to overcome by merely paying a fine. But, you must bear in mind that paying the fine and getting speeding points on your record is just the start of your woes and could result in harsher consequences. There are occasions when you are issued ticket by an overzealous police officer who is merely interested in collecting fines and, as a law abiding citizen, it is well within your rights to challenge such tickets, and you should immediately seek help from a Pittsburgh criminal defense attorney.

Why Should I Fight These Charges?

Just paying the fine is simply admitting guilt of traffic violations. Apart from pleading guilty, you could also find points added to your driver’s license record that may have serious consequences going into the future. If you gather enough points on your license, it may be suspended for a certain period of time. According to the law in Pennsylvania, the number of points varies on the basis of speed at which you were driving the vehicle. As your traffic ticket attorney, I would tell you the faster you drive above the permissible limits, the more speeding points are deducted off your driver’s license.

Here is how the system works:

  • 2 points for speeding between 6 to 10 miles per hour over the limit
  • 3 points for speeding between 11 to 15 miles per hour over the limit
  • 4 points for speeding between 16 to 25 miles per hour over the limit
  • 5 points for speeding between 26 to 30 miles per hour over the limit
  • 5 points plus 15-day suspension of license for speeding 31 miles per hour or above the limit

As a further consequence of accumulating these points, you may have to undergo mandatory safe driving tests or have your license suspended for a longer period of time. A seasoned traffic ticket attorney in Pittsburgh like Sean Logue would protect your rights by contesting the tickets that have been issued to you.

Speeding points may have more serious consequences than imagined. I would defend your rights and do everything to ensure your future behind the wheels isn’t affected.

What happens when I get six points?

The first time a driver accumulates six points, PennDOT will suspend his license and require him to take a pass a safe driving class and exam within 30 days of the sixth point being added.

The second time, the driver will have to attend a PennDOT hearing. At the hearing, the driver’s record will be reviewed by officials, who will recommend a course of action the driver must take. Failing to appear at the hearing means an immediate 60-day license suspension.
