What Roblox MDL No. 3166 Means for Pennsylvania Families
In December 2025, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) centralized specified federal cases titled In re: Roblox Corporation Child Sexual Exploitation and Assault Litigation, MDL No. 3166, in the Northern District of California.
What the transfer order describes
The transfer order summarizes plaintiffs’ allegations that predators contacted and groomed minors through Roblox and that, in some alleged cases, contact continued through other services or devices. It identifies common questions concerning platform safety features, warnings, representations, and alleged knowledge. The order is procedural; it does not decide whether the allegations are true or establish liability.
What an MDL does
Multidistrict litigation allows cases with common factual questions to be coordinated before one judge for pretrial proceedings. It is not a class action. Individual claims remain individual cases, and case-specific questions may include the facts, applicable law, arbitration provisions, and procedural rulings. The transfer order did not decide whether any arbitration agreement applies or whether a particular claim can proceed.
Scope matters
The MDL is framed around child sexual exploitation and assault claims. In a June 3, 2026 order, the JPML declined to transfer a separate “grooming for violence” case that did not allege sexual exploitation, predation, or assault into MDL 3166. Different online-harm claims may follow different litigation tracks.
Questions in an individual review
A review may examine which platforms were involved, the alleged conduct, relevant dates, account and device information, reports or communications, the child’s age, and available non-explicit records. The MDL’s existence alone does not establish eligibility, a settlement, or a predicted outcome.
