Social Media Harm Claims: Evidence and Case Review
A potential social media harm claim may involve years of account activity and health history. Families do not need to solve every question before speaking with an attorney. A basic timeline and an inventory of existing records can provide a useful starting point. Logue Law Group reviews potential injury inquiries throughout Pennsylvania.
Information That May Help an Attorney
Platform and Account History
Identify the platforms, usernames, approximate dates of use, and any changes in usage. Device screen-time summaries may provide context. Preserve existing account records and backups when possible; do not change or delete potentially relevant material before discussing preservation with counsel.
Relevant Activity and Communications
Existing screenshots, posts, messages, notifications, recommendations, safety reports, and platform responses may be relevant. Keep original files and note when and how they were obtained. A screenshot without dates or context may leave important questions unanswered.
Health and Treatment History
Provider names, treatment dates, symptom history, diagnoses, hospitalization, and medication history may matter. Prior conditions and other significant events can also affect the analysis. Medical records contain private information, so arrange a secure transfer with counsel rather than attaching complete records to an ordinary website inquiry.
A Timeline With Context
Record changes in social media use, when symptoms were observed, and what treatment followed. Include other events occurring during the same period. Distinguish personal observations from information learned later, and note approximate dates as approximate. A timeline organizes evidence; it does not establish causation by itself.
Preserve Information Lawfully
Do not guess passwords, impersonate another person, bypass account restrictions, or access an account without authorization. Do not alter, selectively edit, or destroy potentially relevant records. Tell the reviewing attorney about unavailable records or uncertainty so that appropriate next steps can be considered.
Keep Private Information Secure
A public contact form is suitable for requesting a conversation, not for transmitting passwords, private messages, full medical records, or sensitive details about a minor. Ask the firm about its secure document process. Keep originals and existing devices or backups available until you receive preservation guidance.
How a Case Review Works
An attorney may review the timeline, records, alleged platform conduct, possible causal connection, jurisdiction, and deadlines. A diagnosis or high screen-time total does not automatically establish a claim. Additional investigation may be needed, and some inquiries will not support a viable case. Consultation does not guarantee representation or recovery.
Care should remain the priority. Do not delay professional treatment while gathering documents or pursuing a legal inquiry.
